2M infant swings and rockers recalled after a child death and an injury

BREAKING – INFANT SAFETY ALERT: Over two million infant swings and rockers are being recalled due to potential for entanglement and strangulation which already is associated with one death.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Thorley Industries, LLC, d.b.a. 4moms, of Pittsburgh, Pa., have announced the action involving some two million MamaRoo swings and 220,000 RockaRoo rockers in the United States, with some 70,000 combined units also having been distributed in Canada.

When the swing or rocker is not in use, the product restraint straps can hang below the seat and non-occupant crawling infants can become entangled in the straps, posing entanglement and strangulation hazards, according to federal officials.

CPSC reports the company has received information on a 10-month-old infant who died from asphyxiation and a 10-month-old infant who suffered bruising to his neck before being rescued by a caregiver, both associated with MamaRoo swings. No incidents involving the RockaRoo have been reported, it says.
