Allegany County COVID-19 cases stable, but high, over the past two weeks

BREAKING – EXCLUSIVE: New COVID-19 cases have stabilized at seasonally higher rates than last year in Allegany County, NY, but haven’t shown yet the start of a fall-winter escalation which occurred at the same time last year.

The Allegany County Department of Health, responding to Allegany Hope‘s daily Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests for localized data, provided today for the first time in months, weekend data at the start of the week. No information, however, had been received previously since a week ago Friday.

The numbers show 57 new positives last week, compared with 58 for the week before, 2.8 and 2.3 times respectively above comparable weeks last year.

There had been 65 new cases three weeks ago, a jump from 49 the preceding week and more than 10 times last year.

Our charting for the past two weeks shows the Wellsville zip code having the greatest number of new cases with 10 each for the past two weeks, followed by Bolivar with nine, an increase of one positive.

The most notable changes were Fillmore, with six new cases last week, compared with two the week before, and Cuba, with a drop from seven to four.

The chart accompanying this story shows zip code locations and patterns for new cases during the past two weeks.

There have been four individuals admitted to Jones Memorial Hospital due to COVID-19 since the beginning of the month, through Friday, according to the State Health Department, with one still hospitalized at that time.

Three positives also have been admitted to St. James Hospital in Hornell, with none still hospitalized, and 17 at Olean General Hospital, with five still hospitalized, during the same time periods.

Allegany County is continuing to request that those testing positive through self or home tests enter the information at https://bit.ly/3zymEWF to aid in better determination as to the number of cases in the county and their general locations.
