Allegany County now under Winter Weather Advisory for tonight and Sunday

BREAKING – **** PLEASE SHARE **** — A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for Allegany and Wyoming counties, along with McKean in Pennsylvania, and a LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING for Cattaraugus for tonight through Sunday night as snow bands, which have dropped nearly six feet of snow south of Buffalo, move northerly today and then are forecast to drop south tonight and tomorrow.

Wyoming County previously had been under a hazardous driving alert, with Allegany and Cattaraugus counties, as we reported yesterday, originally cleared of snow alerts for this weekend.

Cuba and the I-86 corridor west of Friendship are forecast to receive the most snow, with over six inches through the storm event, with blowing snow during the day and wind gusts nearing 30MPH being reached around noontime Sunday throughout the county.

Sunny weather then is forecast currently for Monday through Wednesday, with highs around 40 degrees.

This is an unpredictable storm as it relates to snowfall levels and winds in specific areas. A short distance can have a major difference.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul had issued a 30-day Disaster Declaration Thursday for 11 counties in Western and Central New York, including Cattaraugus and Wyoming, along with all contiguous counties, which includes Allegany, to enable moving of resources to impacted areas before, during and after the storm event.
