Allegany County Sheriff schedules mandatory Safe Boating Certificate course for operators

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Department will host a free, eight-hour state Safe Boating Course Sunday for county residents or taxpayers, one of five mandatory training opportunities for operators being held through May.

The eight-hour certificate requirement is for anyone born on or after January 1, 1978, or currently 46 years of age or younger, who operates a boat or personal watercraft (jet ski) on New York State waters.

The course will be held from 8:30AM to 4:30PM February 18, at the department’s facility at 4884 State Route 19 South, Belmont, and will be repeated at the same times on Sundays, March 10, April 7, and May 19, and Saturday, April 27.

The Sheriff’s Department has a Marine Division of state Boater Safety Course instructors and State Department of Environmental Conservation-certified marine patrol officers who patrol both Cuba and Rushford lakes.
