BREAKING: A new online Weather Resources page has been established by Allegany Hope as we continue our endeavors to be the most comprehensive, local hazardous weather resource for residents of the Greater Allegany County, NY, area.
The page, which will be expanded in the future to include additional links and emergency preparedness education information, is available at https://bit.ly/3YAlcPI.
Current links which have been posted combine in one location different resources we often report when there are pending weather concerns.
Allegany County is in a somewhat unique situation in that weather patterns in it and adjoining counties are reported by three different National Weather Service (NWS) forecast offices
Residents often experience a variety of adverse weather intensities within county boundaries and adjoining areas to which they commonly travel.
Although Allegany Hope concentrates on weather reports for Allegany County, which is located in the southeastern corner of the US National Weather Service Buffalo NY office forecast area, we often rely on the US National Weather Service Binghamton NY for weather in Steuben County east, and the US National Weather Service State College PA for forecasts for Potter and McKean counties, since weather components don’t follow county boundary lines.
Trying to explain what is predicted or actually happening in each county and their varying parts, sometimes more than once a day, can be cumbersome.
Therefore, the new page will allow us to highlight general weather alerts being reported for Allegany County, along with adjoining areas as appropriate, and enable readers to go quickly to specific links for greater detail about where they live, work, or travel.
Allegany Hope currently will continue its Facebook alerts of adverse weather in Allegany County, which are posted automatically on a slightly delayed basis from the NWS Buffalo office.
Please Share this information with family members and friends so they, too, can stay informed.
