Allegany Hope, Houghton University and more at Families Pavilion today at Wellsville

Mostly sunny skies are expected to greet thousands of visitors today as more than a dozen Christian organizations participate in a Families Pavilion as part of the annual Main Street Festival in Wellsville, an adjunct to the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally weekend.

Houghton University and Allegany Hope will be among organizations highlighting the activity, organized for the second year in a row on Jefferson Street, next to the former Town and Village Hall, across from the David A. Howe Public Library.

Children’s games, music, giveaways and other activities are part of the 9AM to 4PM celebration. The second day of a quilt show at Grace United Church also will be underway from 10AM to 4PM at 289 North Main Street, with an awards ceremony at 3PM.

Houghton University will be providing prizes from a spin wheel as it disseminates information on its multitude of higher education in-person and online course offerings, along with its new Founder’s Promise Scholarship which elevates financial aid awards for Pell-eligible students to equal the cost of tuition.

The University recently announced that its first-year student enrollment is the highest in six years, with over 35 percent of the incoming class having the full cost of tuition covered due, in part, to the new scholarship.

Allegany Hope representatives will discuss with attendees our ever-expanding Community News, Resources and Calendar website and group Facebook page, along with our other initiatives to aid in Building Healthy Communities Through Healthy Families throughout Allegany County and beyond.

These include creation of a volunteer Information Ambassador system to aid in facilitating information about news, adverse weather situations and community resources between and among Allegany Hope and area individuals and families.

We also will be providing information about free access to our RightNow Media @Work community subscription which provides viewing for more than 20,000 videos encompassing wholesome children’s and youth content, marriage and families selections, men’s and women’s studies, mental health and stress-related subjects, business-related insights and assistance, and more.

Networks and forums involving Faith Community Health Ministry, Christian business education and practices, Faith Driven Entrepreneurs and Investors, Open Government, development of True Communities of Care Among Churches and Other Organizations, and more also will be discussed.

Churches and other organizations will focus on after school, music, recreation, food and nutrition assistance, children and youth, and other ministries they provide for all ages.
