Another round of changing temperatures and precipitation for Allegany and nearby counties

BREAKING: Allegany County is expected to experience another roller coaster ride of temperature and precipitation changes over the next few days which will result in rain today, snow late tonight into early Monday, and gusty winds before temperatures climb back up into the mid-50s and 60s starting Tuesday.

A WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect in Cattaraugus County west from late tonight through Monday morning, with an accompanying WIND ADVISORY today to its west.

The effects of both will spill over into Allegany County, particularly with snow in the northwest sector, with over a half-inch of rain expected in forecasts today from the National Weather Service at Buffalo, before turning over to snow just after midnight as temperatures continue to drop.

Snow is forecast to end by sunrise Monday, but gusty winds will keep wind chills around freezing or below into Tuesday morning before temperatures start another rise.

In Steuben County east, forecasters at the NWS at Binghamton are alerting to a few snow squalls being possible Sunday midday through the afternoon, with abruptly low visibility and slick roads. Higher terrain also may pick up up to a few inches of snow Sunday into Monday, with areas of blowing snow.

“Though gusty winds are anticipated Sunday, the strongest gusts are forecast Sunday night into Monday, possibly 40 to 50 mph at times,” they say, with a few power outages possible.

Daylight Savings Time also will require adjustments as the clock is set forward one hour, starting at 2AM Sunday, resulting in a lost hour of sleep.
