Astronomical Spring officially arrives this afternoon

Happy Spring! ….. with higher temperatures bouncing back up today after the weekend’s wintry weather.

Astronomical Spring officially arrives at 4:24 this afternoon as the amount of daylight and darkness are nearly equal.

The designation, in contrast with Meteorological Spring which already occurred for forecasters on March 1, also is referred to as the Vernal Equinox.

The season of “March winds bring April showers and May flowers” continues, with brisk winds, along with gusts near 30 today.

The annual Burn Ban also continues for all of New York State through Sunday, May 14, as strong winds, combined with drying grass and brush, make conditions susceptible to wildfires, several of which already have occurred in Allegany and adjoining counties in prior weeks.

Further information and an explanation of the seasons is available from the National Weather Service at http://bit.ly/3Jt24MI and the Burn Ban, from the State Department of Environmental Conservation, at https://on.ny.gov/3iehWWk.
