Continuing heavy rain for much of Allegany County today, Flood Watches to the east and south

Here is an updated weather pattern for today for Allegany and surrounding counties from the US National Weather Service Buffalo NY (top) and the US National Weather Service State College PA.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect through late tonight for Potter County in Pennsylvania and from noon today until 6AM Tuesday for Steuben County east.

Other areas will receive significant rainfall as forecasters report that “(w)aves of low pressure sliding east along a stalled frontal boundary over Pennsylvania will generate a soaking rain over parts of western New York today and tonight.

“Rainfall amounts will range from negligible amounts near and east of Lake Ontario…to nearly an inch across parts of the western Southern Tier,” according to the Buffalo forecast office.

The heaviest Allegany County rain in expected in the southeast corner of the county, bordering the Flash Flood Watch area.

Chances of rain currently continue through the day on Wednesday.
