A schedule of public health clinics, from this afternoon into the middle of November throughout Allegany County, NY, for COVID-19 bivalent booster and flu shots has been published by the Allegany County Department of Health.
Combined clinics for both Pfizer boosters and the flu are being held today in Friendship; Thursday in Almond; next Monday, October 17, in Andover, and Wednesday, October 19, in Bolivar.
Combined clinics which also include Moderna bivalent boosters are being held Fridays on October 14, 21 and 28 at the Crossroads Conference Center, next to the Allegany County Office for the Aging location at 6087 State Route 19 North, Belmont.
Both Pfizer and Moderna bivalent boosters are being given Friday, November 4, at Cuba Memorial Hospital Inc.
The Cuba Cultural Center, Inc., is offering a state-run COVID-19 clinic for all available types from 10AM to 7PM on Thursday, October 20, at its facility at 38 East Main Street, with no appointments necessary.
COVID booster information
Bivalent boosters are directed specifically toward the currently prevalent BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, along with the original virus. The Moderna bivalent boosters are in short supply and schedules for those coincide with availability.
The new boosters aren’t required to be of the same brand as the original COVID-19 series and individuals aren’t required to have received the previously provided boosters to obtain the new bivalent shots.
Individuals, however, must have received or receive the initial one or two shots series for COVID-19 in order to obtain the new booster.
Pfizer boosters are available for eligible 12 years of age or older individuals, with Moderna boosters only available for those 18 years of age or older.
Both companies have federal approvals pending for earlier ages.
All COVID shots are free.
Flu shots schedule
Flu shots only also will be provided by the health department next Tuesday, October 18, in Canaseraga; Tuesday, October 25, in Whitesville; Wednesday, October 26, in Wellsville; Monday, October 31 in Fillmore; Tuesday, November 1, in Belmont; Wednesday, November 2 in Cuba; Monday November 7, in Alfred; and Tuesday, November 15, in Friendship.
There is a cost for flu shots, which may be covered all or in part by Medicare and various insurances, with programs also being available, such as Vaccines for Children, Vaccines for Adults, and a sliding fee scale based on income, for those without insurance.
Vaccines also are available from some Allegany County pharmacies and healthcare providers.
