Dry and drought conditions finally subsiding in most of Allegany County region

Recent rains have finally had an impact on overcoming abnormally dry and drought conditions in Allegany and most surrounding counties, although environmental protection agencies in both New York and Pennsylvania still have the areas under a Drought Watch.

Livingston is the only adjoining county which the U.S. Drought Monitor is showing as “Abnormally Dry” in its map release yesterday for the period ending on Tuesday. The comparison map on the left is from a week ago.

Drought watches are established by state conservation departments, with New York information at https://on.ny.gov/3OJR2Dt and Pennsylvania at https://bit.ly/3xacVWo.

U.S. Drought Monitor information for the entire country, a significant portion of which remains in Severe, Extreme or Exceptional Drought conditions is available at https://bit.ly/3UOrAkp.
