Family events today in Wellsville and Belmont, along with television recycling

Multiple events are on the calendar for individuals and families today in Wellsville and Belmont, together with an opportunity to recycle old televisions.

The free recycling event, for up to two televisions per Allegany County household, will be from 8AM to 3:30PM at the Wellsville Recycling Center at 77 West Dyke Street.

The county Department of Public Works, in encouraging participation, notes that televisions “contain many hazardous materials which can harm the environment if not disposed of properly.”

10AM: Genesee River Wilds Float – Dozens of kayaks will launch on the Genesee River, from the Riverwalk Plaza at 111 Bolivar Road (State Route 417 West) to the Amity River Access Site on Corbin Hill Road (County Road 31-A) at the Back River Road intersection, south of Belmont.

The annual event, which also will feature food and music starting at 1PM at the Amity site, is designed to support the Genesee River Wilds organization goal of expanding recreational access to the river and protecting the health of the overall watershed.

11AM-1PM: Summer Reading Kickoff for children and adults, with multiple activities at the David A. Howe Public Library, 155 North Main Street, Wellsville, is one of various events at Allegany County libraries which will occur before the start of summer reading programs.

The library will provide games, raffles and crafts, live music by the Young Sisters, a chance to use a saw and auger from the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum and a petting zoo with goats from ME & Boys Soap, along with guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens from the Elm Valley Harvesters 4H Club.

Individuals and families will have an opportunity to sign up for the summer reading program, Adventure Begins at Your Library, with adults enrolling either at the event or by Saturday, June 22, receiving a free tote bag and being entered into a drawing for a camping/picnic cookware kit.

1PM-5PM: Allegany County SPCA 5th Anniversary Celebration will feature family fun activities at its facility at 5440 State Route 19 North at Belmont.

The event will feature children’s games and activities, including a bounce house and face painting, music, food, dog agility demonstrations, and dogs, cats and farm animals.
