Food and poverty to be Thursday focus in Cuba

A community forum on poverty and food insecurity has been scheduled for Thursday in Cuba.

The ACCORD Community Action Agency in Belmont will conduct the session, the second this year on issues impacting Allegany County communities, from 6PM to 7:30PM, May 23, at the First Baptist Church, 17 South Street.

The gathering will include testimonies from individuals “who face ongoing barriers to making ends meet,” along with community members who work at combating food insecurity.

Participants will be asked to help define needs, understand resources, and “build a hunger-free future for everyone.”

Updates on a similar forum which focused on Housing for All, held in February in Wellsville, also will be provided, along with an opportunity to suggest future topics.

Light refreshments will be provided with raffle tickets being provided by bringing non-perishable food for donation to the Cuba Food Pantry.

Free food resources in the western part of the county contracted significantly with closure nearly a year ago of the Cuba Cultural Center operation which provided food for the greater Cuba area and hosted pop-up pantries twice a month at various locations in Western Allegany County.
