Fountain Arts Center and Genesee Valley Chorus combine for free Houghton concert

The Fountain Arts Center in Belmont and the Genesee Valley Chorus will come together in June for an On Earth as it is in Heaven concert at Houghton University.

The free event will be held from 6:30PM to 8PM Saturday, June 8, in the Wesley Chapel Auditorium at 1 Willard Avenue.

The Fountain Arts Center Community Orchestra, conducted by Alva Robbins, the Genesee Valley Chorus, and the Fountain Arts Center Youth Choir, under direction of Amanda Robbins and Shelly McGraw, will perform during the activity.

The Fountain Arts Center Orchestra is a community group which includes strings students of violist David Peralta performing alongside music educators and professionals throughout the area.

It was birthed out of a 2021 recital at Knights Creek Church at Scio when a half dozen strings students collaborated with a brass quintet to provide an opportunity for students to perform.  The number of strings students now has tripled, with additional musicians in brass, winds, and percussion joining the group rehearsing at The Fountain Arts Center.

The Center Youth Choir also debuted in the same year when a handful of home school students rehearsed a Christmas program in Belmont with a class of students in Brazil via Zoom videoconferencing.

The first concert was held in December at the Almond Community Church, with the group since then including two dozen students from ages four-to-18 who have performed in various other venues.

The Genesee Valley Chorus has been bringing music to Allegany County for nearly fifty years. Since 1976, the choral group has provided a variety of musical performances covering a wide range of genres that include classical, popular, Broadway, gospel, and country.
