Four companies receive final orders from Federal Trade Commission

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has obtained final orders against four companies for alleged unlawful consumer behaviors.

Harley-Davidson, grill maker Weber-Stephen, and MWE Investments, producer of Westinghouse outdoor power equipment, were accused by the FTC with illegally restricting customer rights to repair their purchased products, with Electrowarmth Products being barred from deceptively claiming that heated fabric mattress pads it sells for truck bunks are made in the United States, according to FTC reports.

A New York State law which would ban companies from restricting consumer rights to repair their own products and from manufacturers refusing to provide parts to independent repair businesses for a wide variety of products, including cell phones and electronic devices, has been approved by the State Legislature and is being sent to the Governor for approval.
