The final Free Fishing Day of the year will be available on New York State waterways on Veterans Day next Friday.
Anyone can fish on November 11 without a license, with all other freshwater fishing regulations continuing to apply, according to the State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).
The department encourages adults, children and families to give fishing a try and offers several ideas for the day:
— Try fishing for the first time;
— Return to the joy of catching a fish again if you haven’t fished for a while;
— Become an ambassador to the sport by taking a friend fishing for the first time;
— Invite an out-of-state friend to New York to fish;
— Take a spouse fishing; and
— Fish with the family “and don’t forget the grandparents!”
Several Allegany County, NY, libraries offer fishing poles for free use.
Further information about Free Fishing Day, including places to fish, is available at https://on.ny.gov/3rUzBYI.
