Friendship area residents will be able to share food supplies and other items with others as the result of a new outreach by a local church.
The United Church of Friendship has installed a Blessings Box outside its parking lot/handicapped ramp entrance at 31 East Main Street, with foodstuffs and other items, such as diapers and small personal and household items, being provided by the congregation and any donor for use by others.
Clothing isn’t accepted for this initiative, although a large recycling container continues to be available at the site for deposit of gently-used clothing.
“Give what you would like and take what you need” is the theme of the outreach which is accessible at any time.
A fellow church ministry, Mission Agape at the Church of God in Christ, at 77 West Main Street, conducts a free monthly food distribution from 3PM to 5PM on the third Mondays of the month, with emergency food available at other times by telephoning (585) 610-2497.
Western Allegany County lost a major food cupboard, along with bi-monthly Pop-Up Pantries (PUPs), last year with closure of the Cuba Cultural Center.
Further information about the new ministry is available at (585) 973-7951.
