Friendship churches join together to host August 6 community picnic

Friendship’s five churches are joining together next month to host a free Community Picnic for individuals and families, with music, kids games, “great conversation,” and more.

The activity will start at 12:30PM Sunday, August 6, at Island Park, 29 West Water Street, in Friendship, with attendees encouraged to bring a dish-to-pass, along with an appetite and seating, with meat, beverages and tableware being provided by the churches.

The effort, started last year with Friendship churches coming together and inviting families and friends, is to expand on a focus of building greater community among town residents, according to organizers.

Participating churches include the 1st United Methodist, Followers of the Way – Nile Community, Friendship COGIC, Friendship Bible Baptist, and the United Church of Friendship.

The following week, at 2PM August 13, the Followers of the Way Church also will be hosting its annual ice cream social at its facility at 4094 State Route 275 at Nile.

Live music by Michael Scott Smith, root beer floats and other ice cream treats, and games will be among delectables and activities.
