EARLY ALERT #3: This morning’s maps from the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Prediction Center (WPC) show the projected risk of flash flooding from the fast-moving Tropical Storm Nicole which made landfall today in Florida.
The storm’s life as a hurricane was short-lived overnight after reaching landfall, but still is expected to produce heavy rain for Western and Central New York and Pennsylvania on Friday.
The WPC continues to forecast two to four inches of rain in the region, but projections from the US National Weather Service Buffalo NY are more reserved, saying “(w)idespread one to two inches of rain is expected with local amounts of three inches possible. These rainfall amounts may result in minor flooding in poor drainage areas, but the very dry weather over the past few months may help to mitigate the potential for flooding.”
Rain now is expected to arrive in Allegany County by daybreak tomorrow and become heavy during the day Friday, accelerating during the evening and nighttime hours.
Rain is expected by forecasters to turn to snow showers Saturday night as mid-to-upper 60s temperatures fall, before clearing on Monday.
