Help Us Help Others in attempting to aid in overcoming what Allegany Hope has identified as significant gaps in adverse weather alerts to the public which are possible or occurring in Allegany County.

As background, residents of the greater Allegany County area are served by three National Weather Service forecast centers: Buffalo for Western New York, which includes Allegany County in its southeast coverage corner, Binghamton which reports Steuben County east, and State College, Pa., which forecasts for Potter and McKean counties in Pennsylvania.

Weather doesn’t stop at geographic borders, however, with fringes of adverse weather in one county or forecast area often extending over into others. Weather also can vary considerably in various parts of the county due to weather patterns, terrain, temperatures and other conditions.

Allegany Hope often provides Early Alerts about potential severe weather on this website and our group Facebook page at https://bit.ly/3DRdx6J to provide advance information of weather potentials to be aware of, watch, and alert family members and friends as to possible adverse situations.

We seem to be the only entity which provides this amount of detail for the immediate Allegany County area, other than various resources from the three forecast centers for the National Weather Service, itself, which can be time-consuming for the public to follow.

You Can Help
Currently, we have a half dozen other community group Facebook sites in Allegany County which we can disseminate adverse weather updates to, generally in less than a minute from the time we first publish information to our own Allegany Hope Facebook group.

We would like to identify other open community groups to disseminate information to quickly. If you are aware of any other group than the one on which you are reading this information, please forward the link to AlleganyHopeWNY@outlook.com so we can check out this potential resource.

Additional Assistance
As always, we are seeking volunteers who have an interest in weather and other types of disaster preparedness to expand our coverage and community education. Please contact us by email, or at (484) 435-0503 if you would like to learn more.

Also, with ongoing contractions in news media reporting, both nationally and locally, we continue to seek volunteer Information Ambassadors in various parts of Allegany County and beyond who can alert us to activities going on in their areas which may be important to others and to pass on information which our Ambassadors obtain from our posts to family members and friends who may have a need.

Part of our Allegany Hope focus of Building Healthy Communities Through Healthy FamiliesTM is to help develop information systems which better serve the public.

Allegany Hope is a Weather-Ready Nation AmbassadorTM and provides both adverse weather and other emergency preparedness and weather education information on this website and on our new group Allegany Hope WNY Community News Facebook page at https://bit.ly/3DRdx6J.

“Like” and “Share” this website and that page, along with applicable posts, with family members and friends to help keep them informed about what is happening in Allegany County and beyond.

Emergency alerts reporting should not be considered a substitute for immediate weather alert radio or portable instant warning devices which are available commercially.
