EARLY ALERT: Unsettled weather for the week now includes a HIGH WIND WATCH, with gusts to 65MPH, Tuesday into early Wednesday for Allegany County and Western New York and yet undetermined significant precipitation possibilities for next weekend.

Steuben County east remains under a WINTER STORM WARNING through 4PM this afternoon, with another one-to-three inches of snow forecast. Some snow is predicted to linger in Allegany County through the day.

The High Wind Watch is in effect from 10AM Tuesday through 4AM Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), with southeast winds of 35-to-45MPH, and gusts to 65MPH possible.

Preparation should be made now for the impact of downed trees and power lines, with widespread power outages possible.

Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, forecasters say, with recommendations for loose and shelter objects being fastened down or moved to a safe location prior to the onset of winds.

The high winds currently are projected to be accompanied by some snow Tuesday morning, changing over to significant rain.

No alerts have been posted at this time for bordering Pennsylvania counties.

Next weekend’s outlook
A potential mixture of significant rain and/or snow, combined with strong winds Saturday night into Sunday, could produce “a significant storm system,” according to the NWS at Buffalo, although it is too early to determine the possible full impact.

Continue to monitor these events during the week for updates and encourage family members and friends to do the same.
