Allegany County, which was elevated to the “Moderate” air quality range last week has been moved up, along with counties to the east, to the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” category until 11:59PM today.
The State Department of Environmental Conservation recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.
It says that people who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician, according to the National Weather Service at Buffalo.
