Independence Week activities scheduled in Allegany County

Independence Week is bringing a flurry of activities for individuals and families throughout Allegany County and beyond.

Free events scheduled from Thursday through the weekend, with charges for some individual items, include:

Thursday-Sunday
Andover July 4th and Bicentennial Celebration

Thursday, July 4
10AM – Grand Parade on Main Street.
11AM-1PM – Andover Historical Society and Allegany County Historical Society and Museum, 11 East Greenwood Street, open.
All Day – Carnival on the Andover School grounds, 31 Elm Street, with live music by Sam and Dan from 2PM-4PM, Longshot from 5PM-7PM, and Louie Norton and The Peelers from 8PM to dusk.
Dusk – Fireworks at an off-site location, with public viewing from the school.

Friday, July 5
All Day – Historical Walk through the village, with signs displayed at the featured stops. Maps will be available at the Historical Society, which will be open from 11AM-2PM.
8:15PM – Kids Movie Night on the school grounds, with free ice cream, popcorn and water provided and attendees bringing their own chairs and blankets.

Saturday, July 6
Noon – Pickleball tournament in the school gymnasium.
10AM-3PM – The Grease, Gears and Grooves Car Show with a DJ and food vendors on the school grounds.
1PM-3PM – The Historical Society will be open, with Allegany County Historian Craig Braack presenting at 2PM A Brief Look at the Railroad History of Allegany County.
7PM-10PM – Free Foam Glow Party for the entire family on the school grounds.

Sunday, July 7
11AM – Ecumenical church service on the school grounds.

Friday-Saturday, July 5-6
Outdoor Movies – Rushford and Friendship

Dusk – Nationally-acclaimed films by the Kendrick Brothers will be presented Friday and Saturday nights at sites in Rushford and Friendship under auspices of area churches.

  • The film, Overcomer, can be viewed on Friday, July 5, at the Rushford Fire Department, 8911 Upper Street, hosted by Caneadea Hills Community Church of Fillmore.

    The movie explores mentoring issues encountered by a high school basketball church who is asked to take over the cross-country program, where he finds a troubled teen.

  • War Room will be screened the following night, Saturday, July 6, at Island Park, 27 West Water Street (County Road 31), in Friendship, hosted by the What God is DoingTM in Friendship ny alliance of churches.

    The movie highlights how a wife learns to use prayer and faith from an older prayed up women to put her family back together.

    The screening coincides with a new Bless Every Home prayer initiative for neighbors to pray for neighbors throughout the town on a regular basis.

Saturday, July 6
Lavender Festival – Angelica

9AM-4PM – The 16th Annual Lavender Festival will be held at Park Circle in Angelica with over 70 vendors selling handmade lavender-inspired art, crafts, and handmade products.

Music and food also will be available.
