Jones Memorial opens new third floor operations today, with ribbon cutting and tours next Wednesday

The third floor expansion at Jones Memorial Hospital’s new Medical Village includes providers from the 127 North Main Street Women’s Health Clinic, along with the Orthopaedic Clinic and, eventually, the Martin Street Primary Care offices.

Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville will cut the ribbon officially next week on the third phases of a $25 million transformation and modernization project which actually opens today at its 191 North Main Street facility.

Termed as a new third-floor “Medical Village,” the 14,000 square foot expansion is a home to women’s health, family medicine/OB, pediatrics and orthopedics.

Carrie Walker, vice-president of hospital practice management and specialty services, said the new expansion is a “huge step in our commitment to advancing healthcare access and continuing to provide superior care to our community,” adding that “our providers will have state of the art resources at their disposal, direct access to the hospital and more time for patient care.”

The full project will be celebrated at a 3PM Wednesday, January 31, ribbon cutting, followed by hospital staff leading facility tours which also will include the new static MRI suite and operating room units.

The new addition was made possible through a New York State Transformation grant, along with a $2 million Capital Campaign drive funded primarily by members of the local community.

Hospital officials say, however, that building of the Medical Village would not have been possible without the foresight of past Jones Memorial President and Chief Executive Officer, William DiBerardino, who had elevator shafts installed, along with reinforced steel structures, in planning for a future third floor, during a 1991 renovation. Prior CEO Eva Benedict also is credited with fighting to obtain grant funding, along with project approval.
