“Play by these rules and keep the runs on the field,” says the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as it encourages Super Bowl watchers to “make sure your game day favorites are memorable for all the right reasons.”

Both the CDC and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are providing tips on how to avoid food poisoning when serving up meals and snacks this weekend.

The CDC says to focus on the goals of Keeping It Safe, Avoiding Mixups, Cooking It Well, and Playing it Safe, while the USDA is concentrating on avoiding a penalty from not taking precautions with food which is ordered in or leaving food out too long at room temperature, creating a “big food safety penalty.”
