Lights out for over half of RGE customers in Allegany County

STORM UPDATE #4: Over half of Rochester Gas and Electric (RGE) customers in Allegany County are without power at this hour as wind gusts have been recorded at up to 59MPH tonight at the Wellsville Airport and peak gust periods still are being forecast to be on their way.

RGE is reporting 6,185 out of its 11,021 customers without service at this writing, with another 251 out of 7,119 being listed by National Grid. Any outages within community power territories, such as Wellsville, aren’t immediately known.

All services in the Town of Amity, which includes Belmont, Bolivar-Richburg, Clarksville, and Genesee are listed without power, with only 10 customers in service at Friendship.

National Grid currently is forecasting complete restoration by 7AM tomorrow, with no time estimated being found on the RGE website. A HIGH WIND ADVISORY, which went into effect at 10AM today, continues until 4AM Wednesday.

Truck crews are unable to put buckets into the air during high wind periods due to safety.

The 59MPH gusts at Wellsville were recorded during the 7PM hour, with 40MPH to 50MPH gusts being registered in all but one hourly period since 11AM today.

The National Weather Service at Buffalo is projecting winds to top out around 10PM and then start to decline.

Service outage reports also can be made on those sites. If someone is without power while those around them have been restored, another report should be made.

Potential weekend repeat
Strong winds currently are forecast to return to the hour this coming weekend, along with potential heavy precipitation.
