Medicare open enrollment opportunities for next year end Wednesday

BREAKING: Medicare Open Enrollment ends Wednesday, with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)encouraging those covered to “take a few minutes to compare plans and check if you can save money or get better coverage” for one’s needs.

Plans and prices change each year and those covered by Medicare can end up paying more but receiving less coverage than that which is desired by a recipient when a plan is renewed automatically.

Those insured can go to through midnight on December 7 to explore options, and gain confidence in one’s plan selection for 2023, according to the HHS. Those desiring to enroll in a new plan because of their particular circumstances, will have new coverage starting January 1.

Some items to check
Medicare suggests the following when considering coverage for next year:
— Check if your doctors are still in-network.
— Make sure your prescriptions are on the plan’s list of covered drugs, or “formulary.”
— Consider how the plan’s deductible and other out-of-pocket costs factor into total costs.
— Some plans offer extra benefits, like vision, hearing, or dental coverage, that could help meet your needs in 2023.

Medicare Savings Programs for low income seniors
Medicare also notes that if one’s income for 2022 is below $18,600 ($25,000 for married couples), they may be able to save on their monthly Medicare premiums and other out-of-pocket Medicare costs, including prescription drug costs, through a Medicare Savings Program, with information at

If someone has an elderly member of the family, it is suggested that they try to determine if an analysis has been made and provide assistance if needed.
