WEATHER UPDATE #2 – Monday: The National Weather Service (NWS) is providing additional projected detail associated with a HIGH WIND WARNING event for Allegany County west and north from 10AM Tuesday through 4AM Wednesday, with other impacts to Steuben County east and adjoining Pennsylvania counties.
In Allegany County, forecasters say that tomorrow’s precipitation will start out in the morning with minimal snow, before turning over to rain, beginning around noontime, creating an inch of wet through midnight.
Gusty winds will start before daybreak and build to around 60MPH — slightly less along the Genesee River — by 8PM, resulting in downed trees and power lines, with widespread power outages expected, along with difficult travel conditions.
Both Steuben County east and Pennsylvania counties to the south are under a WIND ADVISORY for various periods, with somewhat lesser winds anticipated but greater precipitation, which could lead to more snow, along with higher rainfall which could result in low level flooding in some areas.
Prepare now for high winds and power interruptions, with the NWS urging that loose outdoor items be secured ahead of the storm.
“People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches,” it warns. “If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.”

Another significant storm is possible this coming weekend, with potential for substantial snow and/or rain. It still is too early to determine details or possible impacts.
