More severe weather and excessive rain potential today, Pop-Up Pantry cancelled

Allegany and surrounding counties are again under threat of severe weather and excessive rainfall this afternoon and evening, resulting in this afternoon free Pop-Up Pantry distribution in Angelica being cancelled.

The latest outlooks from the National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center (SPC) and the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) highlight a Marginal or elevated Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms in the areas highlighted on the map accompanying this story, with a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall also forecast for the broader area.

The primary severe weather is for thunderstorms accompanied by damaging winds and a lesser potential for hail.

It is noted that the geographic area outlined can reflect a variance of 25 miles and that the lowest Marginal Risk levels were in effect during last week’s significant storms in some areas of Allegany and neighboring counties.

The potential for excessive rain also is forecast currently to return on Saturday.

ACCORD Corporation announced this morning the food distribution cancellation at the Allegany County Fairgrounds due to the weather forecast.

It says its ACCESS Center at 84 Schuyler Street in Belmont will be open from 9AM to 3PM today, with anyone in need of food encouraged to visit the food pantry there. Individuals also can contact or call (877) 356-9211 to locate food pantries in various communities.

The next Pop-Up Pantry is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, at the Genesee Valley School in Belmont, with required registration on Monday, July 8.
