POWER RESTORATION UPDATE: Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) is estimating that “a majority” of its remaining customers without power in its six-county Rochester Central and Fillmore districts, including more than 900 in Allegany County, will have lights back on by 11PM tonight.

Allegany County appears to have been the hardest hit by high winds in the RG&E territory, with officials reporting to Allegany Hope Community News that some 8,000 customers total were without power last night, with 5,000 of the county’s 11,021 services appearing to constitute the largest percentage.

Some 2,200 customers total still lack power as of this writing, with online data showing Allegany County still having 938 of those, over 60 percent being in the Bolivar and Richburg areas and the remainder spread over nine other locations.

A current list of outages is available at https://bit.ly/41TRIhH, with the company urging people without power to use the online system or call (800) 743-1701 and report again if it doesn’t appear they were on the list, or have been removed from it due to most power in their areas having been restored and their lack of service being an isolated issue.

The Bolivar and Richburg Fire Departments are reported to be continuing operations as warming shelters, with the Allegany County Emergency Management offices at the Crossroads complex, 6087 State Route 19, north of Belmont, being open until 10PM today.

The county said this morning that it had received information from the company that services would be restored by 3PM today. The company, however, told Allegany County Community News after the county’s statement that it still was in the field assessing needed operations and no completion time was able to be determined.

RG&E reports that wind gusts of more than 70MPH in some of its service area resulted in downed wires and tree limbs and broken poles.

As we have been reporting, strong but lesser winds are forecast for portions of the remainder of this week and the upcoming weekend.
