Nationwide recall in effect for specific beef jerky products

A nationwide recall is in effect for nearly a quarter ton of beef jerky products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The problem was discovered when Magnolia Provision Company, Inc., of Knoxville, Tenn., received confirmation from their third-party lab that a product contact surface sample returned as positive for the bacteria, which can result in fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms, and have severe effects for high-risk individuals, including pregnant women.
