With pizza boxes galore this holidays period, Allegany County NY Solid Waste and Recycling is providing tips on what is garbage or compostable waste and what is recyclable.
It says that one should recycle empty pizza boxes, even if they have grease on them, but to be sure they are completely empty, with no crusts, food, crumbs, wax paper liners, foil or other objects in them.
It reports that a 2020 study by West Rock, a major U.S. corrugated cardboard manufacturer, found that grease on pizza boxes, contrary to earlier assumptions, doesn’t create problems for recycled paper manufacturers, citing the document at https://tinyurl.com/pizzaboxes2020.
