Possibility of severe weather again today and Thursday

TODAY’S WEATHER UPDATE: There is a MARGINAL RISK of severe weather again today and Thursday in Allegany County, the same designation which was issued during the day Monday, prior to multiple waves of wind, hail and downpours hitting many parts of the area, resulting in Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

Boundaries shown can vary by 25 miles

Some two dozen services are without power this morning, primarily in the Angelica and Andover areas.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is providing the forecasts, primarily for severe winds potential for areas shown on the map accompanying this story.

However, the NWS Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is issuing the same level of alert for possible excessive rain today and Wednesday in Southwestern New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania counties.

In the meantime, a HEAT ADVISORY continues for Allegany County east, west and south starting at noon today. It already has been in effect since Monday for Livingston County north, with the alert in all New York counties expiring at 8PM Thursday, but being extended in neighboring Pennsylvania counties of Potter and McKean until 8PM Friday.

Heat index temperatures in Central Allegany County are forecast to reach into the high 90s by each mid-afternoon from today through Thursday, declining slightly to the low 90s through Sunday.

Oppressive humidity also will continue into Friday.

An AIR QUALITY HEALTH ADVISORY for sensitive groups, including young children and older adults, also is in effect for the second day in a row for Cattaraugus and Wyoming counties west.
