Prepare for high winds, followed by dropping temperatures for the next week

HIGH WIND WARNINGS, intermixed with rain and snow, for Western New York, including Allegany County, WINTER STORM WARNINGS to the west and northwest with major snowfall, and WIND ADVISORIES for Steuben County east and neighboring Pennsylvania counties, are all combining with gradually dropping temperatures and windchills reaching zero and below by Sunday night and continuing at different points through at least Friday.

The High Wind Warnings currently are in effect until 4AM Sunday for Allegany County, Winter Storm Warnings from 10AM today through 7AM Monday, and Wind Advisories until 9PM today for adjoining Pennsylvania counties and midnight for Steuben County east.

Be Aware. Be Prepared. Stay Safe.TM and continue to monitor for underlying or likely replacement Warnings, Watches or Advisories over at least the next several days.

Current National Weather Service weather projections for the next seven days for the Allegany County seat at Belmont. Variations are likely in different parts of the county, particularly in more rural areas and at different elevations.

Continue to prepare for additional power outage potentials. Secure outside loose items and be cautious, particularly with high profile vehicles, if there is a need to drive. Stay away from windows during windy periods.

Also check on those who are elderly or disabled, particularly as temperatures drop, and plan for pet safety.
