Although today kicks off the “official” Christmas shopping season and festivities, Saturday will highlight some area focuses.
Small Business Saturday, a nationwide designation to encourage consumers to recognize the impact which occurs when they engage with the 33 million small businesses in the United States that power America’s economy, create jobs and make communities vibrant, will be highlighted.
In Wellsville, the village will kick off its Hometown Holidays celebration, starting at 4:30PM, with the annual Santa Parade which will travel down Main Street to the David A. Howe Public Library at 155 North Main Street.
The Lions Club Fantasy of Lights trees then will be lighted on the library lawn, followed by Santa visiting with children and handing out candy canes.
A fireworks display will end the evening at 6:30PM.
Prior to the parade, in addition to Small Business Saturday shopping, the Ukuladies from Alfred will perform for all ages at 1PM at the library, where they also will provide ukulele demonstrations.
The library then will be loaning out its new collection of instruments for home trials and use.
Starting Monday, registrations will be taken for a mid-week pop up pantry of free food, with a second, to include a holiday box, to be held two weeks later.
