
Houghton and the Town of Caneadea will host Seneca lands cultural and educational exhibits and other activities next month in the only known Allegany County town which had a permanent settlement of the Native American people.
Seneca Nation and Stand With Seneca will join in a Caneadea Field Day from 10AM to 5PM Saturday, July 1, at the Town Park at 9736 State Route 19, in Houghton.
The schedule of activities includes:
— 10AM – !!AM: Welcome and flag raising
— 11AM – 11:15AM: Friendship dance
— 12PM – 12:30PM: Youth lacrosse exhibition game
— 12:45PM – 1:45PM: Traditional dance exhibition
— 2:00PM – 2:30PM: Men’s lacrosse exhibition game
— 2:30PM – 3:30PM: Hoop Dance Exhibition regalia showcase
— 3:30PM – 4:00PM: Master’s lacrosse exhibition game
— 4:00PM – 4:30PM: Wooden stick skill challenge
— 4:30PM – 5:00PM: Closing ceremony and honor dance
Admission is free, but there is a $5 parking fee.
