A Marginal Risk of a few isolated severe thunderstorms are possible today in Allegany and surrounding New York and Pennsylvania counties, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) at Buffalo, with a few storms potentially producing gusty winds, localized heavy downpours, and isolated flooding.
Additional rounds of showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected Tuesday with similar potential results, it reports.

The NWS warns that “just six inches of fast-moving flood waters can sweep a person off his or her feet,” with most flood-related deaths occurring at night due to individuals unable to determine water depths.
It notes that urban and small stream flash floods often occur in less than one hour.
