Top honors students named at Wellsville Central School

Joseph Mariotti has been named as valedictorian and Sara McCormick as salutatorian of the 2023 graduating class at Wellsville Central School.

The top student, son of Joe and Kera Mariotti, attained a high school average of 99.41 percent and plans to attend Alfred State College to pursue a degree in surveying and geomatics.

McCormick, daughter of Paul and Tammy McCormick, was close behind with a 99.19 percent average, and is slated to attend Gannon University, majoring in early childhood education.

Marriotti, during his high school years, has obtained the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, the University of Rochester Xerox Award for Information and Technology, the New York State Regents Award for Educational Excellence, and been designated as a Rotary Student of the Month.

He is a two-year member of the Wellsville Chapter of the National Honor Society, and In addition to his academic accomplishments, has been a member of the Wellsville swim and track and field teams.

The salutatorian also has achieved the state Regents Award for Academic Excellence and the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, along with the University of Rochester Humanities & Social Sciences and the DAR Good Citizen awards.

She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, has been active in the Student Council and Ski Club, and has been a member of the Wellsville Girls Swim Team for four years.
