Top seniors named at Houghton Academy as first county high school graduation occurs tomorrow

Top senior students have been named by Houghton Academy as it holds this year’s first high school graduation in Allegany County Saturday.

Houghton Academy Head of School Toby Travis, left, congratulates top honors students for the 2024 graduating class, Valedictorian Bella Stevens and Salutatorian Wesley Davidson.

Bella Stevens, daughter of Michelle and Charles Steven.0s, leads her class as valedictorian with a 95.06 unweighted average, with Wesley Davidson, son of Bryan and Kerrie Davidson being named as salutatorian with a 94.81 average.

The top student is a member of the National Honor Society, Impact Crew, Model UN, and culture club and has taken multiple classes at Houghton University during her time at the Academy.

She participated in volleyball for three years, with two years as captain and being named as the most improved player, the steadfast character, and D2 Class All-Star, and club volleyball.

Stevens has been accepted early-decision to Syracuse University with a Founder’s scholarship, with plans to major in psychology and minor in addiction studies.

The salutatorian has taken honors-level biology and chemistry, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, and will graduate with three credits from Houghton University.

Moving from Virginia to New York in 2021, Davidson began his time at the Academy as a sophomore, for the past three years being an active member of the varsity soccer team. The student earned Most Improved Player in his junior year and played in the senior all-star game.

He also has served as treasurer of the Student Council during his junior year, running shot clock for the varsity basketball team, a member of stage and tech crew for school plays, and leading the seniors in sales as they raised money for a trip to Philadelphia.

Davidson plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University in the fall, including participation in intramural sports.

Graduation at Houghton Academy, a private international, college-preparatory Christian school, is scheduled for 10AM tomorrow, with a baccalaureate service at 7PM tonight.
