Two churches kick off four-day Scio bicentennial celebration Thursday

The KonXions United Methodist and Genesis Bible churches will lead a four-day Scio bicentennial celebration which starts Thursday in the town.

The Methodist church will host Cruise ‘n Cream, starting at 5:30PM August 10 at its facility at 4011 Main Street (State Route 19), with free participation and prizes for cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles and kids bicycles.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream sundaes and other foods will be available, with proceeds going to Allegany County Cancer Services.

At 7PM, Genesis, at 4193 State Route 19, Belmont (Scio), will host a free showing of the Jesus Revolution movie.

The film is based on the true story of Greg Laurie, senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, with campuses in California and Hawaii, and featured speaker of national public evangelistic events called Harvest Crusade.

Jesus Revolution recounts young Laurie, in the 1970s, searching for all the right things in all the wrong places until he meets Lonnie Frisbee, a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith, they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love. This led to what TIME Magazine dubbed a JESUS REVOLUTION.
