Two cold fronts moving through the region today bring potential for snow squalls, even thunder

WEATHER UPDATE: Two cold fronts from Eastern Canada and the Great Lakes will move east today, bringing similar snow depth patterns for Allegany County as we published late last night, but wind gusts topping 40MPH are expected to result in blowing snow and snow squalls in some areas at times, with even some thunder potential during noontime hours.

The first front, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), is expected to move through in late morning and during the noontime hours, with a second in late afternoon and evening bringing increased potential for short duration snow squalls which could reduce visibility to whiteout conditions.

This overall unusual combination will help drive wind chills down to single digits during the overnight hours, according to forecasters.
