BREAKING – EXCLUSIVE: Known Allegany County, NY, COVID-19 cases plunged last week, with only the Cuba zip code showing a marked increase in new positives.
The data, from the Allegany County Department of Health, comes in response to our daily Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) for localized data which shows a weekly total at 76, down one-third from the previous week’s 114.
The number of new cases in Cuba increased from two to nine for the week.
Our chart, which shows the zip code allocations for the past two weeks, accompanies this story.
No reason is known in regard to the drop due to contact tracing no longer being undertaken. The actual cases number also is assumed to be significantly higher due to home tests, although Allegany County continues to collect partial data through self-reporting.
Individuals continued to be hospitalized for COVID, with one each yesterday at Jones Memorial Hospital and Cuba Memorial Hospital Inc., two at St. James Hospital in Hornell and 10 at Olean General Hospital. The Cattaraugus County facility is reported to have admitted 30 new COVID patients during the week.
The county is continuing to request that those testing positive through self or home tests enter the information at https://bit.ly/3zymEWF to aid in better determination as to the number of actual cases in the county and their general locations.
