WIND CHILL ADVISORIES remain in effect until 10AM this morning for Allegany County west in New York and south in adjoining Pennsylvania counties as windchills are projected to reach as low as 20 degrees below zero. It is cold, but to slightly lesser degree projections in Steuben County.
At 7AM today, the Wellsville Airport had recorded -12 degrees windchill during the preceding hour, down from -9 for the previous two-hour periods. The air temperature was at four degrees, with wind gusts to 21MPH.
The wind chill chart accompanying this story shows the air temperature at the top, with wind speeds along the left side, resulting in the windchill temperature. The color areas show the average time it takes at various windchills to experience frostbite.
In the meantime, the Buffalo area continues to be inundated with snow, with the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting an additional one to three feet in the most persistent lake snow areas, and exceeding four-foot total in some local areas.
