An ENCORE! public kickoff event highlighting fall activities for older adults, including the semester calendar for arts, music, and lectures, will be held Wednesday morning at Houghton University.
The September 16 activity is scheduled from 10AM to 11:30AM on the main floor of the Reinhold Campus Center at 1 Willard Avenue, followed by the opportunity for an $8 multi-station, buffet-style luncheon, which is available daily to seniors, in the campus dining hall on the facility’s second floor.
The ENCORE! ministry was started several years ago for older adults to help provide educational, recreational, and socially enriching experiences in a Christ-centered, academic environment, enabling them to relax, build friendships, and immerse themselves in wellness, creativity, and learning.
It currently hosts more than 200 members for various ministries, with a one-time $25 registration fee covering identification, a parking pass, book club, tech workshops, band and choir and more. Some activities, such as use of fitness facilities, may have an additional cost.
ENCORE! members also can receive a weekly email of campus activities available to them, which often are free.
Several new opportunities will be highlighted during the open house, with several county organizations participating which provide services for seniors.
Allegany Hope, along with its Allegany Hope WNY Community News and What God is Doing in Allegany County ny initiatives, will be represented with information about its online newspaper, Building Healthy Communities Through Healthy Families activities and opportunities for helping to build Christian Communities of Care throughout Allegany County and beyond.
