Some dozen Allegany County churches are participating this coming weekend in a national Back to Church annual observance, with the number posted to date believed to be the most per population of any county in New York State and beyond.

The designation, occurring this year on Saturday-Sunday, September 19-20, was created many years ago to encourage congregants to return to church after summer vacations and individuals and families who aren’t affiliated with a church to check one out.
Two county churches are providing regular meals this week, including the Cuba First Baptist Church at 27 South Street (Spring Street entrance) as part of its 6PM Wednesday night devotional discussion, and Followers of the Way – Nile Community Church, a Saturday Sabbath-observing Baptist congregation with a 12:30PM light luncheon following its 11AM September 19 service.
The Balcom Beach Bible Fellowship at 8985 Main Street in Rushford has returned to 10AM Sunday services in its former United Methodist Church building following summer weekend gatherings on Balcolm Beach at Rushford Lake.
Other participating churches in Allegany and adjoining counties are available on the Find a Church Now searchable map at https://tinyurl.com/Find-a-Church-Locations.
Interested individuals and families can contact the individual churches to determine fall schedules and if they are hosting any additional special activities.
